Matthew 25: 34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
Mrs. Field heard that scripture and said "Lord, I have never visited you in prison, but if you open the door, I will." She soon became determined to take the gospel into Sing Sing Prison which was close to their summer home in Peekskill, NY. She used her husband's influence and friendship with the governor of New York to open the gates for the gospel. Mrs. Field's request was granted, and God confirmed it with a verse: "Behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it" (Rev. 3:8 KJV)
Since then, a team from Hephzibah House has provided chapel services to the incarcerated at Sing Sing and other facilities in New York State. Working with the inmates to develop their faith in Jesus Christ and the redemption that is afforded to all who believe He is the Messiah and the Son of God. To respond to Jesus' invitation to be reborn, and transformed into a new being. Also we train them to become disciples of Christ as they grow in their understanding of the Bible and the salvation they received, so that they may fulfill the purpose He has for their life, to share with others the saving grace of Jesus and His transforming power!
